GLG's New Innovation Centre - Testing the limits of lighting in Australia

GLG (formerly Gerard Lighting), Australia and New Zealand's leading lighting solutions group has launched the 'Innovation Centre,' an engineering and laboratory facility built for delivering custom product design and full compliance testing - the only one of its kind in Australia.

The 640m² Innovation Centre in Padstow NSW, is a state-of-the-art facility; designed to facilitate product customisation and showcase the capabilities of extensive Pierlite® and Sylvania® portfolio to customers.

"The facility has been developed using the latest testing equipment, with a team of experienced engineers responsible for the overall operation of the Innovation Centre," says Mark Snyman, Innovation Centre Manager, GLG. "The centre allows us to build on 23 years of compliance testing to delivering innovative new products and solutions that our customers can be confident meet or exceed Australian Standards."

GLG is one of the few Australian lighting manufacturers that have an in-house testing facility ensuring complete quality control, agile product development and technical aftersales support capabilities.

"With the high rate of product development in LED technology, and a shrinking product life cycle, it is vital to have engineering and testing capability. This will ensure GLG are faster to market and leading the technology curve," says Jackie Williams, General Manager Customer Solutions, GLG.

The Centre contributed to the development of Pierlite GenLED™ luminaires. In consultation with LendLease, GLG was briefed to supply lighting to produce a better working environment with minimum maintenance and support achieving Green Star sustainability targets for their Barangaroo development. The Innovation Centre was pivotal in facilitating engineering design, manufacture and supply of a fully engineered GenLED luminaires in less than 8 months.

The plan for the Centre is to showcase GLG's commitment to excellence and high standards for quality, performance and compliance. GLG will use this facility to educate the market on the importance of selecting quality brands that can deliver solutions. The Centre is critical to providing peace of mind when it comes to electrical safety and product reliability.
