Glazed Timber Fire Doors from Pyropanel

To meet market demand for 1 hr timber fire doors with glazed areas larger than the standard vision panels (300 x 200mm or 600 x 100mm), Pyropanel has developed Half Lite and Full Lite glazed timber fire doors. The Pyropanel fire rated glazed timber door range offer a more cost effective way to achieve a higher level of light transmission and visibility through fire doors than steel glazed fire doors. These doors provide more options for building designers and fire engineers. Both door types are tested to AS 1530.4 for fire.
Benefits of the Pyropanel Half Lite and Full Lite timber doors are:
- Significantly lighter than steel-framed glazed doors, making the installation easier (45 kg/m2 for timber Full Lite, as opposed to 55 kg/m2 for the steel version),
- Lower cost than steel-framed fire rated glazed doors,
- Conventional fire rated door frames (for 1 hour applications) can be used (Glazed steel doors have a proprietary frame system),
- Installed like a typical steel or timber fire rated frame, requiring no special trade,
- In-situ finish can meet the architect's intent rather than a separate one-off steel door,
- Ideal for many situations requiring visibility into corridors, lobbies and stairwells

Both Half Lite and Full Lite glazed timber fire doors utilise 18mm thick fire rated glass, which offers clear vision during normal conditions, but if exposed to a fire, turns opaque and blocks harmful radiation. This is important for the safety of occupants exiting a building on fire, but also stops fire being transferred from one fire compartment to another by blocking radiation and heat transfer. (Standard glass in large pane sizes would transmit too much radiation which could potentially ignite materials in adjacent compartments).
