Western red cedar from TIMBECK architectural - Young Designers Encouragement Award

In 2008, a unique residential home built on the side of a hill next to the beach at Clovelly won the award for the "Best Use of Western Red Cedar" in the Australian Timber design Awards.

The design required an undulating curved wall clad in Western Red Cedar offering durability and aesthetic in keeping with the location. In conjunction with the Architect and Builder, Timbeck Cedar Products developed and supplied the cladding profile to achieve the desired effect.

Given the title of "The Wriggly Wall" its prime purpose was to protect the upper level of the home from the severity of the westerly elements, particularly the summer sun. Untreated with a sawn finish, the natural weathering of the Western Red Cedar compliments the curves in the self shading undulating wall. Timbeck Cedar Products appreciated the opportunity of being involved with this award winning project.

Featured in the winter edition of "Timber Design Australasia", additional insight into the design criteria and development of the profile that met with the requirements of the unique "Wriggly Walled" surfside home at Clovelly were included.
