Factory Coated Western Red Cedar from Timbeck

TIMBECK COATED PRODUCTS now in operation.

Reducing long term maintenance on windows, doors, cladding, screening and other timber products by factory coating is a major step-forward. Research shows that 65% of Architects prefer factory controlled finishing, and the demand for pre-finished (or at least pre-primed) products among builders and merchants continues to grow.

TIMBECK COATED PRODUCTS - a division of Timbeck Cedar Products - is now producing factory coated Western Red Cedar and other species for both internal and external applications.

Managing Director Graeme Ferrow said roller and vacuum coating equipment, an automated spray line and a positive ventilation spray booth can coat flat and shaped timber sections with conventional spray applications, as well as UV-cured coatings. "Because we coat in a factory environment, we believe we can apply a full four coat system as cheaply as a builder can apply two coats. We can also coat the back of the timber. A lot of timber failure occurs because moisture gets in from the cavity. We seal the back with a system that also seals the tongues and grooves, and puts a coat on the face, as many times as the customer wants," said Mr. Ferrow.

He advised that coating in a factory environment will address a lot of long standing quality issues. "There is no doubt factory coating will greatly assist in improving quality, (for example windows and doors) and also reduce issues related to on-going maintenance."

Unfinished, unprotected timber will inevitably weather as a result of gradual changes to its structure brought about by temperature and moisture content variations. In most applications timber needs protection from water, cold, heat and ultra violet light to prolong its service life.

Milled or dressed timber contains sharp edges which create stress in paint films, causing failure. Arrissed or rounded edges permit film movement with minimal stress. Timbeck can arris or mill to your requirements to maximise the effectiveness of your coating.

Timbeck has established supply arrangements with many coating suppliers including Sikkens, Mirotone, Wattle, Intergrain, Cabots and Cutek.
