TIMBECK architectural - proud sponsor of the 2009 Australian Timber Design Awards

2008 Residential Class 1 Best Renovation Finalist: Trojan House, Jackson Clements Burrows Architects.

Timbeck has kindly given us, the Timber Development Association (TDA), this opportunity to tell you about the enthusiastic support which Timbeck has provided the 2009 Australian Timber Design Awards.

Each year, it seems, the number of entries to the Awards grows. 2009 is, nonetheless, exceptional: we've never seen close to the number of entries received this year across all categories. The introduction of regional awards has played some role in this. But in the end, it is the support of sponsors like Timbeck that has turned this competition from its humble beginnings ten years ago into the highest profile timber design contest in Australasia.

All entries are now in, and judging will soon commence. As always, staff here at the TDA have been poring over the entries and picking personal favourites. We have been particularly impressed by the wonderful range of timber palettes with which we have been presented this year - but our opinions carry no weight in the selection of the winners. Our panel of judges - timber experts from industry, architecture and design - have the only say in this matter. Their selections will be made public at the various Awards presentation nights to be held across Australia in October and then on timberawards.com.au.

Once again, thank you to all entrants and thank you Timbeck for your contribution towards the success of the 2009 Australian Timber Design Awards!

The presentation nights of the Australian Timber Design Awards are likely to be particularly well attended this year, so be sure to book your tickets early. The timber design community has already been showing a lot of interest in our guest speaker for the presentation nights: Andrew Waugh of Waugh Thistleton Architects. Andrew and his team designed and constructed the world's tallest residential wooden building (in Hackney, London), a marvel of timber design - so it's no surprise that tickets have been flying out the door.
