Building With Brick and Blocks: Why Are People Choosing Timbercrete

Timbercrete is a multi-award winning and environmentally sustainable masonry building product that many people are now choosing over the traditional bricks and pavers. These bricks and blocks are not simply only made for building homes and offices but the bricks, pavers and cladding can be used for a range of projects including domestic, industrial, commercial and landscape applications.

What makes Timbercrete different and why are people choosing to build with their bricks and blocks?

Timbercrete blocks have a great number of outstanding qualities which make it an ideal product for many people.

The bricks are known to have significantly improved environmental benefits. Timbercrete is the only brick, block, panel or paver that can actually store carbon gas. As the products are made from discarded timber, a waste product which contains carbon, and then sequestered in a cementitious tomb it offsets the carbon gas emissions of thousands of care per year. Being a carbon trapping product it can lock up thousands of tonnes of carbon gases annually. The more widely Timbercrete is used, the greater the amount of carbon gas that can be isolated. The Timbercrete product also takes a greatly reduced amount of energy to produce when compared with the usual tradition clay fired bricks resulting in a lower embodied energy.

Insulation values are significantly improved when using Timbercrete to build you home when compared with the usual clay and concrete bricks. This improved insulation property is due to the improved thermal mass. Thermal mass is the ability of a product to store thermal energy and release it slowly, a task which Timbercrete bricks and blocks do very well.

Timbercrete bricks have a lighter semi-flexible quality which allows them to have a more improved engineering diversity and the weight of the bricks also makes them easier to work with. Generally, Timbercrete bricks are known to be 2.5 times lighter than concrete or clay bricks. Due to the manufacturing technique and the process and materials used in Timbercrete bricks they have improved workability allowing home owners to nail or screw into them just like timber.

The fire rating on these bricks is improved also with a rating of FRL 240/240/240 (at 190mm thick) and exceeds the highest possible fire rating, and the bricks have also been found to be bullet proof when fired at with a vast array of weaponry. Even the 50 calibre metal jacket bullet has not been able to shatter the bricks.

It's no wonder why many people right across Australia are choosing to build with Timbercrete bricks and blocks. With benefits like these, it's a worthy investment.
