Thermo reflective insulation Perth from Air-Cell Insulation

Australian thermo reflective insulation manufacturer Air-Cell offset 366 tonnes of CO2 during the 2009 financial year, demonstrating an ongoing environmental commitment.

In a move that set an example to other suppliers in the building industry, Air-Cell neutralised the carbon output of its entire vehicle fleet and its staff's Australian air travel.

Air-Cell managing director Scott Gibson said the company was careful to ensure it partnered with officially approved organisations to offset its carbon emissions.

"Verified Emissions Reduction (VER) units purchased through CarbonNeutral signify immediate offsets, regulated as a Greenhouse Friendly™ Approved Abatement and are created from officially approved projects.

"Greenhouse Friendly™ is an official Department of Climate Change scheme, so it is a legitimate and credible programme to be part of," Mr Gibson said.

With the enormous importance placed on environmentally sustainable business practice, Mr Gibson said it was likely certain schemes were not legitimate and criticised companies that greenwashed customers with false or misleading environmental claims.

"The building industry must work hard to reduce its environmental impact; however this must be done with the highest level of transparency.

"We are proud to continue our commitment to reducing environmental impacts not only with the use of our insulation products but also in our operations, by retiring 366 VER units, thereby offsetting 366 tonnes of CO2."

The organisation's fibre-free, non allergenic and non toxic insulation has built a reliable following over the years, contributing to its exceptional environmental credentials.

Air-Cell first launched its carbon offset initiative in June 2007.
