Trustworthy duct performance matters: it is essential to ensure that energy efficiency targets, for instance, live up to expectations in real-life conditions; and it is fundamental to occupant safety, as substandard or incorrectly rated product can lead to unsatisfactory fire performance, directly undermining strict thresholds as defined by Australian Standard AS 1530.3.

AUTOMATED CONSISTENCY
NovaDuct® has been designed to provide consistency and quality in equal measure. Using a revolutionary, patented manufacturing process, Kingspan has managed to enhance the reliability of NovaDuct® compared to traditional duct products.

Graeme Cliff, Production Manager, Kingspan Air Delivery Systems, says a high level of automation during fabrication reduces the risk of material or performance deviations.

"In addition, NovaDuct® polyester insulation is incorporated into the ductwork using an in-line manufacturing process, which means it is simultaneously bonded to the duct core during production."

The result of these carefully developed processes is ducting that provides accuracy of thermal performance.

GENUINE NEED
There is a genuine and urgent need for greater certainty regarding the performance of flexible ducting in Australia, as the peak body Insulation Australasia (IA) has confirmed.

In May this year, IA received an independent professional report that identified widespread non-compliance within the flexible duct product category in Australia.

The report noted that poorly performing ductwork contributes substantially to energy wastage on a national scale, and called for tighter scrutiny of the sector and its certification practices.

"We hope that by achieving CodeMark certification for our NovaDuct® range of flexible ducts, we will be able to offer professionals within the HVAC industry one less thing to worry about," Cliff says.
