High Performance Solar Shading for Sustainable Office Design by Verosol Sustainability and occupant comfort were central to the design of the Shatin Communications & Technology Centre (SCTC) for the Hong Kong Jockey Club. Designed by Arquitectonica, the 51,000 sqm development was conceived to deliver excellent internal environmental quality, maximise natural daylight, and provide open views towards the racecourse - all while reducing overall energy demand. A key contributor to the building's performance outcomes was the integration of metal-backed SilverScreen solar shading from Verosol. By reducing solar heat gain through passive design strategies, the shading system helped achieve approximately 25.7% annual energy savings. The result was a project that combined realistic cost measures with meaningful environmental performance improvements. SCTC achieved LEED Gold certification, BEAM Plus Gold certification, and received the 2016 ASHRAE Regional XIII Technology Award. Verosol's partner, Nicedrape, manufactured and installed the blinds across the project, supporting a high-performance facade solution that balances daylight control, thermal comfort, and energy efficiency.
