Indoor Solar Shading for Energy-Efficient Towers by Verosol One of Germany's early LEED Gold office towers, Opernturm in Frankfurt, required indoor solar shading that could support comfort, visual quality and energy performance across a tall, mixed podium-and-tower form. The 42-storey building, designed to consume 23 per cent less energy than stipulated by Germany's 2007 EnEV Energy Regulation, could not accommodate external shading because of its facade design. That made indoor shading essential for maintaining a healthy workplace environment while meeting workstation and solar control requirements. To achieve the necessary performance, 2,500 roller blinds were installed using Verosol SilverScreen performance fabric in both motorised and manual formats. The solution provided thermal and visual control within the tower's offices, while aligning with the building's sustainability objectives and architectural intent. For projects where facade conditions limit external shading, the Opernturm case shows how high-performance internal blinds can still deliver a refined and effective outcome.
