AliEdge® Slimline55 aluminium frame doors by Mitchells Laminates

Mitchell Laminates AliEdge® Slimline55™ ultra thin edge, aluminium frame cupboard doors, recently appeared on the front cover of Melbounre's Kitchen and Bathroom Design magazine.

This striking kitchen featuring AliEdge® Slimline55™, was selected for the cover, as it most closely represented emerging trends towards the use of ultra high gloss finishes. The kitchen while very functional, due to the lightweight, AliEdge® Slimline55™ aluminium frame doors, was primarily designed for aesthetic appeal.

The kitchen is adjacent to an entertainment room so a 2.7m x 2.6m sliding screen was required to block off this room and at the same time lead into the kitchen. The custom-made sliding screen was constructed using AlIEdge® Slimline55™ panels. These AlIEdge® Slimline55™ panels were finished in the same black Perspex® as the kitchen; however, to make the sliding door a feature within itself, they were also printed with a decorative pattern. This large sliding panel also serves to minimize sound travel to the entertainment room.

The use of AlIEdge® Slimline55™ doors in black Perspex® creates a perfect sheen, with no "rippling" effects normally seen with traditional two-pack MDF painted doors. The result is an opulent high gloss black finish. The design of the AlIEdge® Slimline55™ doors allows for a thin edge of anodised aluminium, which helps to create clean divisions between the doors, and adds a sleek, modern feel to the kitchen. Here AlIEdge® Slimline55™ panels were also used as end panels, to continue the look and to create a unique, visible 19mm aluminium edge.

As an additional feature, kickers and exposed cabinetry were also finished in Perspex® Black 962, to tie in with Slimline55™ doors. An aluminium shadow line was added to continue the use of aluminium.

Due to their light weight construction, it is possible to have larger AlIEdge® Slimline55™ door sizes, without making the doors harder to open or close. Also due to the weight advantages, no special hardware systems are required for the lift-up doors. The use of large sizes allows for less visible joins creating a strong visual impact with the use of Perspex® Black gloss. AlIEdge® Slimline55™ doors use 3mm solid Perspex® grade inserts, so are not subject to chipping like painted doors.

While AliEdge® Slimline55 aluminium frame cabinet doors with Perspex® Black or White are hot right now, it’s predicted other colours such as Perspex® Pearlescent Copper, a red earthy almost metallic orange, will be the choice for AliEdge® Slimline55 aluminium frame cabinet doors in the future.

Of course if gloss is not your thing, AliEdge® Slimline55 doors also come in Perspex® Solid Frost Black and White.
