Polymer Render Systems from JPS Coatings

Polymer Renders: The JPS Way
Polymer renders are the result of the evolution of an ancient building and construction practice that
dates back to an era when primitive men plastered their dwellings with mud. The pyramids of Egypt
have been finished with a mastery of hard and durable plasterwork that withstood the test of time.
The Egyptians used a material known as gypsum, a water soluble material that when dehydrated,
turns into a plaster. This was later known as Plaster of Paris.
Rendering systems have evolved since then into several other forms such as cement render, wherein
a premixed mixture of sand and cement were laden into cement, brick, stone or mud brick. Cement
renders bring texture to the application and is coloured or painted after the application.
Polymer renders, acrylic renders, scratch coat, lime render and brick effect render to name a few. The
use of any type of render depends on the existing substrate, the structure's age, colour, texture and
finish.
What makes good quality Polymer Renders?
There are two types of render. Internal render ensures a smooth surface, protecting the wall against
dust and dirt from getting into the application. Good internal rendering can also protect against
vermin and creates a surface that is ready for painting. External render enables resistance from
atmospheric conditions such as the possibility of rain water getting into the surface.
The challenge with any render is adhesion. Choosing an effective polymer render requires builders
and contractors to understand the temperature, the weather conditions, rainfall measurement and
aesthetics.

Polymer renders are suitable to use on fibre cement sheeting. Polymer renders by JPS Coatings are
designed to joint and skim coat the surface of entire sheets. Although new techniques are introduced,
the old ways of rendering are still widely used. If the materials used and the mixing process is not
applied properly, defects and problems arise. The weather is a very important factor in rendering as it
affects the drying process resulting in cracks and weaker render.
Renders typically come in powdered mixtures but through innovation and latest methodologies,
renders are now incorporated with acrylic that comes in a liquid emulsion. Acrylics are a
thermoplastic material that adds structural strength and quick to dry when applied.
Acrylic polymer renders have excellent adhesion qualities. They can provide up to 4 millimetres of
coverage in a single coating. Unlike the traditional cement, polymer renders can be overcoated the
following day with the selected colour and finished with a texture coating system.
Polyrend Fine and Polyrend Coarse are the two acrylic based polymer render systems from JPS
Coatings.
JPS Coatings has been manufacturing and supplying polymer renders and texture coatings to the
building industry since 1988.
They are a convenient one stop shop since they produce their own wide array of premium products.
JPS Coatings is proficient in all domestic, commercial, and industrial aspects of solid plastering and
rendering.
