Brightgreen's D900 Cube declared winner at Melbourne Design Awards Brightgreen's D900 Cube LED downlight was announced winner of the Lighting category of this year's Melbourne Design Awards earlier this week.

The D900 Cube's design as the world's first square LED downlight with a square beam appealed to the Awards' panel of design experts as well as voting public, who declared it a winner.

The light's innovative design allows for greater efficiency, control and aesthetic alignment with straightedge spaces. This new and improved version of the original also boasts a 15% increase in efficiency with easier installation, thanks to recessed springs.

"We worked really hard to innovate with the D900 Cube. We've been exporting it to Germany for a while so it feels great to be recognised by the Melbourne design community," said Brightgreen CEO and head product designer, David O'Driscoll.

The D900 Cube's innovations in sustainability also assisted in edging the product forward. Operating on only 16 watts, the light outputs the same brightness as a premium 50W halogen, on one third of the power.

At the end of its product life, it will have saved 2590 kilowatts of energy when compared to halogens. Paired with the D900 Cube's long life of 70,000 hours - equivalent to around 30 years of household use - and its nature as a fully recyclable product free of toxic materials, the D900 Cube really is a winner.
