Polyboard: Polystyrene Cladding with JPS Coatings

The process of preparing exterior walls has improved in quality, usability and time of preparation, thanks to a variety of building and construction materials available in the market today. Nevertheless, without adequate product knowledge, consumers might have difficulties in choosing the right product for polystyrene cladding.
The team of experts at JPS Coatings are more than happy to assist clients in choosing the right external materials to fit their project specifications. JPS Coatings stays on top of their clients' requirements, providing the ideal polystyrene sheets and accompanying rendering products that are tried and tested to withstand the Australian built environment.
JPS Coatings Dry Mix Renders: Polyboard Render
PolyBoard Render is available in a dry powder form. It is ideal to use with low absorbency substrate materials like expanded polystyrene sheets and pre-coated polystyrene sheets. The premixed cementitious base coat is produced using a carefully controlled formulation of washed silica sand, cement and powder additives that give excellent adhesion and water resistance. Polyboard Render only needs clean water to produce a smooth paste that has minimal drying shrinkage.
Adequate preparation of the working area, as well as the materials required in polystyrene cladding, is always good building practice. Before applying Polyboard Render, it is important to make sure that the substrate area for rendering is dry, clean, and free from any substances that might affect the adhesion of Polyboard Render.

Pour in one bag (20 kg) of Polyboard Render in a dry bucket, add in 5 to 5 1/2 Litres of clean water. Make sure to properly mix the Polyboard render using a power stirrer or any other mixing device to avoid lumps and achieve a creamy consistency. A bag of Polyboard render is enough to cover 6-8 m2 of the surface substrate. Leave the mixture to settle for 5 to 10 minutes and stir the Polyboard render. Adding water is not necessary as it may cause surface crazing, delaminating and cracking.
Using a hawk and trowel, apply the Polyboard Render starting from the bottom surface moving upwards between a 2 mm to 6 mm thickness. Optimum results are achieved when cement render is applied in a layer with 4 mm to 6 mm thickness. Bear in mind that in an extruded polystyrene application, priming and adding JPS Bonding Agent (2 parts bonding agent:5 parts clean water) is necessary.
PolyBoard Render usually takes 2 to 8 hours to settle and dry. For best results, apply the Polyboard render when the temperature is between 10 to 30°C. However, curing times depend on ambient temperature and might take longer to cure at lower temperatures or higher relative humidity.
To achieve the desired look Polyboard Render must be overcoated with the choice of textured coating seven days after its application.
