Expanded polystyrene starts as compact resin granules that undergo polymerisation in a steam machine at temperatures of 80°C to 100°C. Once they expand up to 40 times the original volume, the beads are stored in aerated silos for greater elasticity. After the maturing period, they are subjected to a final reheating process within a mould, resulting in the foam material known as EPS for energy efficient expanded polystyrene insulation.
