Rigid Foam Board: Styroboard™ Extruded Polystyrene Sheets by Foamex

Styroboard™ extruded polystyrene sheets (XPS) are the Foamex take on a rigid foam board for versatile applications. Foamex wears the distinction of being the industry leader in insulation, within the building and construction industry. The Australian-owned and operated company has developed Styroboard™ as their flagship product - a testament to their hard work and dedication to quality since 1982.
Styroboard™ XPS In Production
Foamex channels more than 35 years of expertise into the production of Styroboard™ XPS. The manufacturing process harnesses no less than high-grade raw materials, innovative building methods, and the latest technologies to seal performance and sustainability into a rigid foam board.
Styroboard™ XPS is manufactured from solid beads of polystyrene resin, without using refrigerants like chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) or hydrofluorocarbon (HCFC) that deplete the ozone layer. The granules are first combined with additives in an extruder. Then, the mixture is melted until a viscous liquid is achieved. The volume of the beads expands upon the injection of a blowing agent. While subjected to controlled heat and pressure, the mixture is forced through a die. Ultimately, a rigid foam board is produced, ready for cutting into various shapes and sizes as Styroboard™ XPS.
Styroboard™ XPS In Action
Styroboard™ XPS scores highly across the board, for key requirements in structural and civil engineering. Water resistance is one such requirement that is of top priority in insulation. Upon contact, moisture weakens the thermal performance of insulation materials. Styroboard™ XPS is designed to prevent water ingress with its high-density cell structure. Even when exposed to harsh weather elements, the rigid foam board maintains its dimensional stability, compressive strength, and long-term R-values. In addition, the extruded polystyrene sheets do not rot or decay and attract vermin, Foamex ensures Styroboard™ XPS will deliver exceptional, long-lasting service.

While robust, Styroboard™ XPS is lightweight and highly workable for a variety of applications. Here are some of the possibilities with Styroboard™ XPS:

1. Floor Insulation - Styroboard™ XPS is most commonly used for floor insulation, even in heavy load-bearing floors. The rigid foam board is suitable for use in warehousing, production areas, coolroom freezer floors, car parks, and even aircraft hangars.

2. Perimeter Insulation - Styroboard™ XPS can insulate entire buildings with excellent R-values, surrounding their shells to eliminate thermal bridges. The extruded polystyrene sheets allow slabs to retain warmth, hence minimising the heat escaping through the foundations of the building.

3. Roof Spacers - The design of Styroboard™ XPS is integrated into Foamex PurlinK® roof spacers, which diminish heat loss through commercial metal deck roofing.

4. Inverted Roofs - Styroboard™ XPS can be fitted to the insulation layer over the waterproofing seal. The extruded polystyrene sheets are compatible with inverted roofs, duo or plus roofs, promenade roofs, roof gardens, and parking decks.
