Polystyrene Wall Cladding with Expanded Polystyrene Sheets from Foamex

Foamex specialises in the design, manufacture and distribution of extruded and expanded polystyrene sheets for various applications, ranging from polystyrene wall cladding to decorative fixtures. With a prolific résumé spanning over 30 years, the Victorian-based company has become the industry leader in polystyrene innovation. Foamex continues to develop new ways of harnessing polystyrene aligning with the latest industry trends.
What are Expanded Polystyrene Sheets?
Polystyrene is the rising industry standard for a wide variety of building applications. The building material is used for structural insulation, packaging, as well as creative purposes like 3D signage and theatre props.
Foamex has made polystyrene their calling card with their best-selling Styroboard range. The product development team at Foamex has honed a state-of-the-art manufacturing process for Styroboard, maximising the cost-efficient properties of polystyrene, like insulation power, durability, sustainability, and resistance to structural degradation.
For expanded polystyrene, Foamex uses compact resin beads, steam-heated in special machines called pre-expanders during the pre-expansion stage. The beads are exposed to temperatures of 80°C to 100°C to expand up to 40 times their original volume, forming small closed cells that store air. The cellular beads undergo a maturing period, before transporting to moulds for a final steam-heating process, resulting in expanded polystyrene sheets.

Polystyrene Wall Cladding with Foamex
Wall cladding is ideally embedded into building design to ensure maximum performance and structural integrity. The building technique aims to combat the detrimental, long-term impacts of extreme climatic conditions, such as changes in weather and temperature, especially for residential properties. Polystyrene provides insulating, decorative and protective benefits - all in a lightweight finish. Hence, polystyrene wall cladding is becoming increasingly popular within the building and construction industry today.
Styroboard expanded polystyrene is the ideal choice for wall cladding that delivers exceptional, long-lasting service. Its build already exhibits superior performance standards when stacked up against traditional wall cladding materials, such as timber and concrete. The tight closed cellular composition of Styroboard allows for excellent resistance to mould, fungi, vermin and other agents of rot and deterioration.
Insulation power is the speciality of Styroboard. The billions of tiny air bubbles trapped within the composite polystyrene matrix makes Styroboard a poor conductor, effectively preventing heat and sound from passing the system. In action, Styroboard wall cladding keeps homes warm during the winter, and cool under summer weather.
Styroboard is fully compliant with Australian Standard 1366 Part 3 -1992, citing the technical standards for the manufacture of plastic sheets in thermal insulation applications.
