Safe XPS Insulation Board: Material Handling and Storage with Foamex

XPS insulation board has been consistently striving in the construction industry because of its high-performance advantages and practical qualities. It is particularly noted for its undeniable strength and dimensional stability that can equal or even surpass conventional cement, timber, or metal building materials. In contrast to its rigidity, XPS insulation board is extremely light hence is easy to transport and install, promising higher cost and energy savings.

For lasting stability and performance, the installation process of XPS insulation board requires safe proper handling and storage to prevent early deterioration or decay. Leader of extruded polystyrene innovations, Foamex assists its customers in proper material handling and storage to improve their XPS's effectivity and ensure that no additional costly repair or maintenance is needed after installation.

Material Handling and Storage for Specific Applications

Small Lots like Concrete Roofs, Plaza Decks, Balconies

Cover the XPS insulation boards with your choice of ballast, paver or tile, light-coloured vapour barriers or filter fabrics (never use dark colours). Do not leave the insulation board exposed for hours, particularly in the warmer temperatures. When using waterproof membranes, sealants, and adhesives, ask your supplier if the products are compatible with your XPS insulation board; Do not use solvent-based membranes and adhesives as most of them are flammable and can dissolve polystyrene-based products.

Concrete Slabs on Ground

Lay out the insulation boards over the prepared slab area. Leave bar stools/chairs and reo placed over it as close as possible to pour time. Do not let the insulation board get exposed to extreme temperatures to prevent deterioration.

Lightweight Construction and Render Substrate

Make sure to render XPS insulation boards within a week after they are fitted in wall frames. Since the material will develop a dusty film due to UV exposure over time, the surface must be sanded before rendering.
